Jennifer Hicks - Nia fitness, creative movement and Reiki

jennifer hicks The Nia Technique has been part of my life for the past 7 years. Nia is a 25 year old fusion fitness practice blending elements of dance, martial arts, and healing arts (i.e., yoga). Nia is an inspiring and invigorating cardiovascular work-out set to vibrant music. It is adaptable and enables us to move according our our body’s design, making it suitable for everyBODY.

I have been teaching for 2 years and hold a Blue Belt Nia certification. I currently teach in Cabbagetown and the Annex, and offer a class to survivors of cancer at Gilda’s Club in Toronto. My classes are joyful, energizing and often sweaty!

I also offer movement programming as an Artist of the Royal Conservatory’s Living Through the Arts program. In this role, I deliver use Nia (and other techniques) to support clients of community agencies such as Baycrest Health Centre’s Memory-Link Program.

In addition, I am a Consultant Speech-Language Pathologist for Neuro-Rehab-Consultants. My professional training has allowed me to develop exceptional communication skills which enhance my teaching skills.

My passion is in using Nia to promote health and wellbeing and so I have led a number of Nia workshops, jams, fundraisers and demonstrations in the community. Recent projects have included:
